At Cromogenia, we are moving towards a more sustainable energy model with the installation of a Biomass heating system our Alcover plant in Tarragona, replacing the old natural gas boiler. This initiative reduces our CO₂ emissions by 3,260 tons annually and promotes sustainable forest management, contributing to local development and forest protection.
Biomass is a renewable energy source derived from organic materials, such as forestry or agricultural waste. When burned, it emits CO₂ previously captured during the plant lifecycle, making it carbon-neutral.
The biomass used in this boiler comes from local forestry waste, reinforcing our commitment to a more localized and responsible energy model. With an estimated consumption of 16,000 MWh annually, this €1.7 million investment, funded by NextGenerationEU, aligns with our goal to decarbonize operations by 2030 and 2050.
The benefits of using biomass are numerous: it helps prevent forest fires, reduces energy dependence on external sources, and positively impacts the community by promoting local employment and development.
This project marks a key step in our sustainability strategy, reaffirming our commitment to reducing emissions and protecting the environment.
